Global challenges can feel distant when presented only as broad themes. Education becomes easier to discuss when learners can connect those themes to a specific question and explain their reasoning.
Learning about connected issues
UNESCO describes education for sustainable development as helping learners understand links among environmental, social and economic issues. Its approach is outlined in the UNESCO education for sustainable development overview.
Use a concrete classroom task
Imagine a fictional class examining how water use connects with food production. Students could compare explanations and identify which claims need evidence. Completing an activity would show participation, while a follow-up task could explore what they understood.
A useful account of an educational project states the learning aim, activity and assessment. Attendance or enthusiasm alone should not be treated as proof of lasting understanding.
